WHAT I DO:

¹ — Life Coaching

² — Group Intensives

³ — Walk & Talk Therapy

We all work differently, so I offer a few options:

  • ① Life Coaching

We’ll address all aspects of your life and how we can make things more comfortable, abundant and balanced. Less therapy-y.

  • ② Group Intensives

  • ③ Walk & Talk Therapy

We acknowledge that finding the right therapist can be a challenging process. As a group practice, we aim to promote the diversity of lived experience, training, and education amongst our counsellors to help you find the right fit. Whether it’s your first time or you have pursued counselling before, our master-level Registered Clinical Counsellors are committed to a collaborative partnership that continuously highlights your inherent wisdom and life experience while bringing to light the areas of concern that brought you to therapy.

In addition to common mental health concerns (anxiety, depression, communication, stress, etc.), IGC specializes in working with clients who experience survivorship (sexual abuse, cancer, suicide, etc.), face issues around sex and sexuality (performance, identity, kink, non-monogamy, etc.), as well as single-event and ongoing trauma (religious, sexual, intergenerational, etc.).

Creativity has always been something that grounds me regardless of what’s happening in life. Dance, music, and design are my companions, and I love to learn new creative activities. Lately that has been weaving macrame, and learning how to garden. I find these activities as moments to connect with myself and slow down.

I am the 3rd born of 4 siblings, and grew up by the lakes of the Okanagan valley. My mom was a competitive swimmer from California, so I consider myself a water baby at heart. There is nothing more soothing to me than being on or near water, and you can often find me paddle-boarding. As someone who has survived cancer, the importance of cultivating hope and purpose is something that resonates deeply with me. I believe this is why I am drawn to creativity. Creating purpose and cultivating hope are aspects of myself that I weave into my therapeutic work.

Life is really hard and often painful. We all need support to find our way through this confusing and challenging existence. The world is noisy and demanding, making it hard to find a sense of peace and hope. It truly helps to let our walls down and share what we are going through in safe, caring, and genuine relationships. This is what I am offering.

From this place, you can find firm footholds and solid ground inside of yourself, empowering you to confidently move toward the future that you want. At times, the coping mechanisms we develop aren’t as effective, sustainable, or healthy as we need them to be. I want to help you learn how to care for yourself and get the most out of your life and relationships. Ultimately, no one can take care of you better than you can, but you might need someone to remind you that your emotions are valid and you are worthy of the life you desire. It might be helpful to be offered tools and skills that support your well-being. If you need someone to help you navigate life changes and hold you accountable, I can be that person. You deserve to feel joy and to accept all parts of who you are.

My goal is to create a safe space in which you feel comfortable delving into your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I may challenge you to explore your fears and darker emotions to better understand and manage them. It requires great courage to be deeply honest with ourselves, but this is necessary for profound growth and to live with authenticity. Together we will navigate the complexities of your life, uncover what holds significance for you, and work towards self-discovery and meaningful change.

About Me

Hi there, I'm Jesse, a therapist residing as an uninvited settler on the stolen lands of the Coast Salish People, frequently referred to as Vancouver, BC. My identities check a few different boxes, but I find myself most frequently acknowledging my queerness and the privilege that comes with my white and American background. Originally from rural Wyoming, I spent my younger years navigating shame and questions of identity while grappling with self-worth and what it means to be enough. Through these experiences, I came to my work as a counsellor with a personal appreciation for the stories we tell about ourselves and who we are—acknowledging that the most important relationship in our lives is the one we have with ourselves. In addition to my work with IGC, I also work to support folks suffering from eating disorders and survivors of conversion “therapy”/change efforts in public health/non-profit settings. When not wearing my therapist hat, I can often be found digging into the history of a wide variety of topics, playing with my two pups, or spending time with close friends for dinner and board games.

About Us

In Good Company Counselling (IGC) was founded on the principle that counselling does not need to be stuffy, pretentious, or overly clinical but rather approachable, transparent, and open. We actively work to accomplish these principles by how we present ourselves as practitioners, the design of our space, and the way in which we communicate with clients. In doing so, we hope to centre an experience of genuine connection between a client and therapist. A relationship unlike any other that we view as integral to our collective pursuit of healing, wholeness, and greater understanding.

Getting to this moment has been no easy task and seeking help is full of unknowns. Perhaps you want to better understand patterns in your life or rekindle meaningful connections in your relationship(s). Maybe you have experienced a life-altering event, trauma or face ongoing survivorship and are looking for a space to process and heal from these events. Each of our counsellors incorporates a trauma-informed lens while welcoming all of the uniqueness and complexity that comes with you and your story.

I understand what it's like to feel lost, anxious, depressed, and in need of support as I developed my queer pride and a caring community. This personal understanding fuels my passion for helping others discover meaning in their lives, explore their identity, and foster self-acceptance. You can expect me to be my authentic self and establish a genuine connection with you. I also have a love for gardening, meditation, and floating around in a kayak. I am a big space nerd and often wander around listening to audiobooks or podcasts.

My Approach

I support those who are hoping for a comfortable space to begin to express some of the thoughts and feelings that seem too big or scary to share with others in their life. I see therapy as a place where you can explore your feelings without worrying about how it is going to affect me, the listener, and by using therapy as a sort of “dress rehearsal for life”, you can walk away with a more clear view of how to communicate with others, find healing, and learn how to process emotions. My aim is that over time, these feelings will be more comfortably felt, embodied, and shared with the important people in your life.

In the therapy room, the focus is on your goals and the collaboration between the two of us. I view our partnership as a meeting of two experts: you, as the expert on what it is like to be you, and me, as someone who can offer tools that have been shown to help people who have faced similar challenges. In my work, I explore what might be keeping you stuck, and work collaboratively to try out strategies to help address your concerns. You can expect a space to process difficult emotional experiences in the moment. This is done through integrating your thoughts with your physiological cues for more fully embodied emotional experience. Through this, your emotional needs can be better understood and validated. I tailor my approach based on what your strengths and preferences are, and what makes you unique! I welcome the opportunity to walk alongside you as you reclaim your power, worth, and healing.

My Approach

Starting with a new therapist, whether you’re new to counselling or a more experienced client, takes a lot of courage. With that courage also comes the discomfort of exploring some of the impactful and painful memories of the past, as well as the current experiences of the present. For this to be possible we have to create a space where safety, trust and collaboration are at the forefront. In my work, I want to engage with folks in a transparent relationship where they can give themselves the opportunity to relax and let go of the expectations they hold themselves to.

In the beginning, I find it really important to help clients learn about their emotions and how these show up for them. With the idea that we experience emotions differently, and have different levels of comfort in sitting with them. In learning how to process our emotions we give ourselves the opportunity to be curious and explore the influence of our past and present experiences. Overtime, you might find that by doing this you move away from judgement, criticism and self-loathing, and more into self-compassion, openness, and a better quality of life.

Therapy can be many things, including messy. I believe therapy to be a journey to unlearn old coping mechanisms, beliefs and behaviours that no longer align with who we are or are no longer serving us in a helpful manner. Therapy is not only about painful experiences, it’s also a place where we celebrate finding new ways of coping and navigating the world. I show up to sessions aware of my own experiences and politics. I am curious, caring and compassionate. I will challenge you and help you develop new ways of moving through the world.
